Eric Resler was admitted to the Brussels bar in 1986. While working for a leading international law firm in Brussels (De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae, subsequently Linklaters De Bandt), he spent over five years in Japan as a comparative law researcher, a post-graduate law student and a foreign legal consultant in a Japanese international law firm. He then resumed his practice with De Bandt, van Hecke & Lagae and subsequently practiced at De Backer & Partners and Landwell (the former network of "correspondent law firms of PriceWaterhouseCoopers").
Eric Resler is a general business lawyer experienced in a variety of areas, including international distribution, commercial transactions, insurance, intellectual property and employment.
He has also developed special expertise in the streamlining of multinationals' business activities internationally, focusing on the centralisation of risk and management or on intellectual property migration in order to improve operational efficiency and global tax position (in co-operation with tax experts).
He has advised the EU Commission and the Ukrainian national and local authorities in the framework of the Conversion and Restructuring of Pivdenmash (Ukraine's largest military-industrial complex) on issues such as feasibility of technical assistance, Ukraine's legal and tax environment, foreign investment, and privatization / concession of public utilities.
Eric Resler is a member of the Belgium-Japan Chamber of Commerce (Tax & Legal Committee + EU Committee). He advises on the legal aspects of doing business with or in Japan and has taught Modern Japanese Law at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL).
